CLIMATE CHANGE WORRIES INVESTORS IN COASTAL AREAS
Jumat, 01 Mei 2009
Investors were shocked over the much-debated climate change-induced sea level rise as it would significantly decrease investment for business activities along coastal line.
“Frankly speaking, we are shocked after learning the impact of climate change and it brings uncertain business risks,” director of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Budi Karya Sumadi told seminar on ocean and climate change on Thursday.
He admitted that the impact of the sea level rise could be diminished by using high-technology.
“But, there should be significant increase in investment to procure such technology,” he said.
He added that the sea level rise, flood, coastal abrasion and heat waves were among the most risky environmental disasters on business activities along coastal areas.
The State Ministry of Environment earlier predicted Ancol, Tanjung Priok and Pantai Indah Kapuk would permanently disappear in 2050 due to the climate chance.
